High school students from across Australia descended on Canberra over the second weekend in August to get a taste of diplomacy at the 2024 Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA).
MUNA aims to give students a hands-on experience of a UN-style conference at the historic Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House, with the aim of increasing international understanding and goodwill. More than 40 students "represented" 15 countries at this year’s event.
Several of our members helped out at MUNA as recorders, adjudicators or runners, to ensure this year’s participants enjoyed a great experience. A few even served as Secretary-General!
Congratulations to the following schools and the countries they represented:
- First place: Sweden - MacArthur Anglican School
- Second place: New Zealand - Central Coast Steiner School
- Third place: Russia - Unity Grammar
- Peace prize: Solomon Islands - St Peter’s Anglican College
Thank you to the Rotary Club of Canberra Sunrise for organising MUNA, now in its 25th year!
