Did you know that Canberra’s Rotary clubs are behind the ACT Emergency Services Community Awards?
The awards acknowledge and celebrate emergency services workers who serve their community above and beyond their day-to-day roles, exemplifying the Rotary motto of “service above self”.
Every day Canberra’s police officers, ambulance paramedics, firefighters and state emergency service personnel are there to protect and care for members of our community. Their work can literally save lives.
This year’s award nominees included a mix of ACT Policing and ACT Emergency Services Agency paid and voluntary members, all with inspiring stories.
Some of our members heard more about their achievements at an awards ceremony on Friday 9 August, including Lynne, who was also involved in this year’s event as a judge.
Congratulations to the 2024 winners, David Tunbridge (ACT Rural Fire Service) and Tammy Bennett (ACT SES), and to all the nominees and finalists.
The awards also support the work of Australian Rotary Health. This year’s beneficiary is a PhD research scholarship investigating mental health among emergency service workers, many of whom are exposed to traumatic events in the line of duty.
