Despite a few brief showers, we had a fantastic Saturday morning kicking off our community garden project at Community Services #1.
Thanks to the ACT Community Garden Grant from the ACT Government, we’re now able to enhance and expand their garden space.
Our first working bee focused on building and installing two new wicking beds which are a real game-changer for CS#1 and the people who rely on the garden. These clever garden beds water from the bottom up, using a reservoir that slowly draws moisture through the soil. That means healthier plants and less wasted water.
With the new wicking beds in place, garden volunteers can spend less time worrying about watering and more time growing the fresh veggies that will thrive right through summer.
