The Canberra Sundowners held our birthing kit packing event on Sunday the 15th of May.  This is the fourth year the club has supported this great cause, with each year being bigger and better than the last.

This year we had about 45 Rotarians, members of our corporate sponsor, Keane Consulting (https://www.keane.com.au/) and friends and family join together in two 3 hour shifts to pack the basic items needed to give birth for women who are not able to get to a hospital or medical facility into birthing kits.  Each kit comprises a plastic sheet, 3 pieces of string, soap, a pair of gloves, a scalpel and much love.

With the support of RCD Consulting's generous donation and donations from our Charter celebration and some participants, we were able to purchase 900 birthing kits this year - up from 600 last year (each kit costs $5, so this involved a total investment of $4,500).  These kits will now be sent overseas by Birthing Kits Foundation Australia (https://www.bkfa.org.au/).  This event will mean that we will have impacted 900 women and babies who otherwise may not have been able to have a safe birthing experience due to being so far from medical facilities at the time.
